Only Mathewson, Burdette had longer streaks in one year

DETROIT -- Kenny Rogers has held the Yankees, A's and Cardinals scoreless over a combined 23 innings in this postseason, and now he is in position to make postseason history if he makes another start for the Tigers in this World Series.

That streak by Reuss encompasses his two starts in the NLDS against Houston and his first start in the NLCS against Montreal. Reuss lost to the Yanks in the opener of that World Series, which was won by the Dodgers.

Even the frigid playing conditions on Sunday night made what he did all the more remarkable, not to mention the fact he will turn 42 on Nov. 10.
