In bottom of 10th inning, Giants Jose Reyes got into the plate as a lead off hitter for that inning. His role was obviously centained to get on the base and give the chance to run. But next hitter Juan Pierre didn't need to stand at the plate. Reyes sent the ball out of the fence, Game was over. Giants took their opening day game against their rival Los Angeles Dodgers.
It was the big game because the game was not only the rival match, As the background of the Giants changed, the first match between two teams got a lot of interest from the media, and baseball fans, even global people. Before the game, Giants new GM Kim told the media at the press conference.
"This is a beggining to take a big step for me and our club, even our country. I feel highly honored to be here, historic event. A lot of efforts were there and I believe my team. We are gonna try to win every games, especially opening day match."
Starting the game, Jason Schmidt seemed to get in trouble to pitch strikes. But as a veteran pitcher, he know his way to manage the game. Though control was a bit of problem to him, he didn't allow any score until 5th inning only giving up 1 hit.
"His stuffs looked so good. sure, he had somewhat difficulty in taking his control. In the early of the game, he pitched too many balls unnecessarily but he was the veteran. Anyway, it is not easy to get score, even hit against him"
The first score came from Dodgers. In the top of the 6th inning, Jeff Kent, former Ginat, hit three-run home run, giving the first lead to Dodgers.
But Giants had not done yet. Right after allowing runs, Calros Gilluen hammered two run shot making the game in tight. And in 7th inning, the hero Jose Reyes made the game tie, bring Cabrera from third base by hitting decesive hit.
Two teams going into extra innings, they are tie at 3. To win for the Giants, one extra inning was enough. While Francisco Rodriguez, Giants closer, shut the 9th and 10th innings perfectly, Jose Reyes, the player of the game, ended the long rally. Reyes recall that moment.
"It was big game for me. For the first game in a new team, I got a big success to help the team win. I was not the starting member today. In 10th inning, I could feel that was home run when my bat met the ball"
