It was a tight game between rivalies. But in 14th inning, A's ended the 4.5 hour-battle, bring the game to them. They won first two games of series and they are tarketing the sweep against the Yankees. It was the first match between two teams after A's moved out of U.S.A.
Both starting pitchers were brilliant. Carlos Zambrano who was on the mound for A's did three shutout game this year and marked 0.64 of his ERA before the game. For today, he only scattered 5 hits, 1 walk, struk out 4 and did 7 inning shut-out again. He lowered his ERA to 0.55 which is the best in the league.
On the other hand, there was Randy Johnson for Yankees. He couldn't grab the win but did one run complete game for 9 innings. He picthed 129 piches and handed the ball over Mariano Rivera.
A's Oliver Perez gave up tying-home run to Bernie Williams in 8th inning, blowing Zambrano's win. Jeremy Bonderman relieved in 8th inning and pitched 5 inning-shouout, getting his first win of the year. Rivera relieved Johnson from 10th inning, pitched 4 scoreless innings, which is the longest appearance this year, left the game with leg injury in 14th inning. Next pitcher Kyle Farnsworth couldn't stop the runner to score, allowing decisive hit to Milton Bradley.
That's it. A's closer Francisco Rodriguez locked the door perfectly for one inning, getting his 5th save.
"Most important thing is winning. That's not mine, just for the team. Though I didn't get a win today, to be frank, at the moment when it became even, a little disappointment dropped in my head immediatly, but after that, I held my eye to the field with wich that we would win in this game. That is the baseball and our business. This is only one piece of paper and for several more times, the similar stuffs will be waiting for us. We need to overcome those challenge everytime."
Zambrano replied in the middle of interview with smile after the game.
