Delgado is headed to Pittsburgh.. (HH2004)
Pirates finally welcomed Carlos Delgado, giving up Lee.
Pittsburgh and New York Mets announced to confirm the deal of exchanging players including Carlos Delgado, Pedro Martinez and Seung Yob Lee. Before they completed the deal, Seung Yub Lee's agent had discussed with the Mets about Lee's long-term contract and got it done. The detail was not exactly released, but it is believed 4 year, 30 millions deal.
Pittsburgh also sent their young pitchers, Paul Mahlom and M. Gozelanny with Lee. This is ideal destination for Pirates, bring the franchise player who they've coveted sincerely. At last before trade, Delgado asked Mets to trade him to the Pirates and Mets replied immediately. Delgado is happy with Bucs now, and Lee is happy with Mets according to them.
"That was tough decision to leave good club and guys who are really kind of. We won the division ending Braves' 14-year straight streak. So, we are all proud of that." Delagdo said after the trade was announced from two clubs. "But this is most attractive opportunity so that I can't stand beside and I can't let it pass by me. I've never dreamed of this opportunity, but it happened, I grabbed it for granted."
Lee also is satisfied with his first team in the major league. "I don't care about where I am gonna play next year, my goal was to play in the major league. So, I am pleased to play for Mets and New York."
Some people had a little shock that Martinez was included. Martinez, who considered retirement and struggled in second half, decided to continue his career in Pittsburgh.
"I know there are some concerns about my health. But, I believe I can play for the next few years. Which country is not issue for me, but I want to contribute something for the club which has faith in me."
Just at one trade, Pirates could get a lot of things they've wanted. Delgado will be the presence of team in the clubhouse, and Martinez will be asset for their rotation as staff's ace with his experiences in the big league.
But this is not the last for the Pirates as they want to strengthen both lineup and bullpen, especially latter one.
